Ann Pedone
deep in these
muddy fields deep where
the wind can’t reach
where shadow-like shade
like the sun touches only
the underside of things
I think of what used to
be called the soul there
must be a way, we thought
to suggest grace, a way
to return to some
thing approaching
the immaculate but it is
only under this light
that we can believe
in such things
Ann Pedone graduated from Bard College and has a Master’s degree in Chinese from UC Berkeley. Ann is the author of the chapbook "The Bird Happened." Her work has appeared in Ornery Quarterly, Riggwelter, Main Street Rag, Poet head, and Cathexis Northwest, and The Wax Paper, among others.
